Un-bearably Cute Lunch
March 5, 2012
Cora has a new coloring game that has some really cute animal cartoons. One of my favorites is a bear, who is making an appearance just in time for the Bento Blog Network Bento of the Week theme, bears. Check it out, there are some really cute lunches linked up! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite!

Cute Rice Critters
March 3, 2012
Thanks to some great bento bloggers that are a terrible influence (closed group but very welcoming to newcomers), I received yet another shipment of goodies from All Things For Sale. One of the items was a set of rice molds so cute that Cora declared she now likes rice! So, I scrapped my hazy plans for yet another Seuss lunch and went to town with the new set. Cora helped and we had a great time! Luckily, I had a container of Annie Chun’s Rice Express sticky rice because I’m not sure I could make rice that is sticky enough on my own
Brown rice cute critters with cheese and fruit leather features (next time I’m going to stuff them!), carrots, cucumber sticks, hummus with natural food color cute faces stamped in, strawberry hearts
You can find this set at All Things For Sale. You can also see the kit in action on other foods on the All Things For Sale blog
The cheese was colored using natural food colors from Chocolate Craft Kits

Seuss-a-palooza
February 28, 2012
So it’s Dr Seuss week in bento land. I wasn’t sure I would get another one in so I went for the whole shebang all in one. Big thanks to Karen from What’s in John’s Lunch Bag for talking me through my perfectionism-inspired creative block!

Ostrich Lunch
February 27, 2012
Well I started off the day thinking I would honor Dr Seuss’ birthday (stay tuned) but Cora had other ideas. Of course she won, so may I present, Cora’s Ostrich Lunch
Almond butter and marmalade ostrich sandwich with naturally dyed cheese and fruit leather, cheese curl worms, bread nest with babybel hatching egg, strawberry hearts
Here’s Cora’s design. She worked on it while I did the lunch. Funny how similar our mommy ostriches are!
Alien Bunnies?
February 24, 2012
I found a cute cartoon of aliens and decided to try out my new natural colors to make them with cheese. I think they turned out cute, but they do look a lot like bunnies.
Cheese alien sandwiches, dyed with natural food colors and with fruit leather features, boiled egg spaceship, fruit stars

Is It Spring Yet?
February 15, 2012
Cora and I both were thinking of Spring this morning. I was contemplating trees and birds, but Cora wanted butterflies. Since I was exhausted from three nights of very little sleep (Cora has a cough that is killing me!), I was thrilled she wanted something so easy. So, here we have butterfly lunch number two thousand and ten(ish).
Almond butter and marmalade sandwiches with fruit leather features, hummus frozen into flower and butterfly shapes, babybel with butterfly cut out, pop chips, melon butterflies
Happy Valentine’s Day!
February 14, 2012
I went a little overboard on lunch today!
Almond butter and jelly heart sandwich with fruit leather cutout, multigrain toast with strawberry cream cheese and raspberries, pink mung noodles (dyed with cabbage water and a splash of vinegar) with red pepper and cheese mini hearts and cherry tomato heart with a pick arrow, ‘lavender’ dyed egg (using cabbage water and not enough vinegar, it later turned blue!), babybel cheese with a heart cut out, watermelon hearts
I also made her a valentine 🙂
On another related note, I got the best Valentine’s Day present ever from my hubby – a Veggie-Bento t-shirt. So sweet AND creative!
